Another day another year.

Once again the end of August approaches and I am faced with yet another birthday. It’s not that I am afraid of getting older, it is that my body is getting older. The aches and pains continue to multiply and as they multiply they become more painful. But, life goes on and continues pain or no pain.

Yes I will be 49 on the 22nd of August. This is also a significant date as Terry Nolan Purtell began his blog “Getting the Big Picture” on my birthday. So far the picture has not gotten any larger or clearer. Come on Nolan, we are waiting for words of wisdom. I am one to speak on this matter as I have not been regular in posting my blog. So, my goal from this date forward is to post once a week minimum. I will try to post more pictures of us, and some insights I learn in college.

Im still here, I think.

It has been a while since I have posted, but here goes. I am almost done with Summer 09 semester. Have completed one class while have another that will be finished on the 30th of July. I only have two more semesters at ECC. Then its off to National Louis University, either Elgin or Crystal Lake campus. That depends on if there is a block beginning at ECC that I can enter in Fall of 2010.

We do have a new used car since my last post. We have actually had a beast for about 3 months before we got the car we have now. We have a 1999 Ford Escort wagon which we like a lot.

Hi everyone. Just a short note to let you all know that I am still alive and kicking. Candi and I went to Northern Illinois University this past Friday. We went on a mini tour and also met with admissions/transfers, and with financial aid. Looks really good for me to begin there in spring of 2010. I think I will have all the credits needed for sure by then. I would try for next fall, but dont think that is quite in the picture for now. Hope everyone out there in blog world is doing good. As for us, we are all fine. Have a goodun. KEN

My its September already. The summer flew by yet again. I am praying everyone out there in blog land is doing fine. School is going good. Two weeks down, 15 to go for the fall semester. My it flies by. I have to begin an observation of a public school child in classroom (30hrs) in which I must observe the child and his/her teacher. This is for my Students with disabilities class. Going to have to do it on Fridays for probably 4-5 hours each time. It is the only day during the week that Candi nor I have any classes. Oh well, that’s why they call it learning.

I know strange title. It reflects that one week of Fall 2008 college is done and 15 to go. All in all pretty much what I expected this week to be. My favorite class so far would have to be “Intro to Cross Cultural Education”. It is a class on how a teacher is expected to relate to different cultures. By this, culture can relate to race, economic status, family status(single parent, etc..), appearance, sexual oreintation, ethnicity, and anything that can cause a student to feel separate from the class in general. Our teacher is a PhD in Education and taught for 6 years in Chicago public schools. She is the new head of the Education Department at ECC. She is Indian and speaks 3 langauges: Indian, French, and English, and in that order.

I am also taking Math for Elementary Teacher on campus. I am taking two Online classes, Music Appreciation, and Students with Disabilities. After this semester I will have one or two more semesters at ECC and then it will be on to probably NIU. But that is not set in stone yet, as we may determine to attend a different institution. A lot depends on tuition costs and availability of housing.

Safety Day at the Library

We went to the library for the summer safety day. A fireman read a story about a BIG fireman and a little fireman. It was a good time. I took pictures and here they be.

What was really funny was Abigail was afraid of the fireman, check out that look. The fireman actually had to sneak up while she was standing so I could get her in a picture with the fireman.

I am alive

Hello y’all. I am still alive. I have been neglecting this for awhile now and decided it was time to write a new post.

School was over the middle of May and I have been hanging loose. Now the days are getting longer. Sigh. Not just in length of the day, but in boredom as well. Didn’t realize I would miss the academia so much. Oh well, school starts again on the 18th of August.

Candi and I are going on a boat ride on the 20th of June. We are members of TRIO. TRIO is a support organization for low income or disabled people which focuses on mentoring and social activities. We will be going to Chicago in July for a river tour of Chicago’s classic architecture. We also have a bowling date in July as well. After each of our little jaunts I will post photos.

Pray for me, I am taking Elementary Spanish this Fall. Como estas usted? lol. I do know a little Spanish, but have recognized the need for more as I prepare for teaching in the future. Maybe I can become Bi-Lingual and make myself more marketable when I seek a teaching position. I will also be taking Math for the Elementary Teacher, Music Appreciation, and Teaching Students w/Disabilities. The nice thing is two of my classes are on-line so I will only be on campus two days each week for about five hours.

The girls are doing great. Just getting taller and smarter. Sometimes that is good, sometimes not so good. Candi and I are doing the bus for our VBS. It is the week of the 23rd of June.

We finally got a new used vehicle. After waiting for the funds to come through, the car we were looking to get was taken already. But God had a much better vehicle waiting for us. He supplied us with a 1993 Chrysler Town and Country in really good shape. I will attach pics later, but just wanted to say thanks to God for filling the need.
